New Honorary Members of the Russian Academy of Arts

Polad Bul-Bul-Ogly,  composer, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Azerbaijan Republic to Russian Federation; Svyatoslav Belza, Honored Art Worker of Russia; Aliev Natigu-Kyamal-Ogly, sculptor, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Republic; Alexei Obukhov, former Deputy Foreign Minister; Oleg Vorontsov, Director-General of Podolsk Art Center have been elected Honorary Members of the Russian Academy of Arts.  At the Presidium meeting on May 13, 2008 they were presented with attributes of Honorary Membership.

Jubilee of People’s Artist of USSR Valentin Sidorov

Order for Services to Motherland 3rd Rank Was Awarded to Theatre Artist Michael Kurilko-Ryumin

Concert of Piano Music in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts

On April 29, 2008 the Laureate of International Competitions Natalia Sharoeva will give a performance of piano music in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street.  The program includes music by Mozart, Grieg, Shuman, Chaikovski, Rakhmaninov, Scryabin,  Prokofiev.

Hippopotamus by Tsereteli Has Been Installed in Volgograd

The exotic animal has appeared in the Red Army district in Volgograd on the square in front of the children’s complex. Known for his huge monuments, this time Tsereteli has been over-modest: the figure is only about 0,5m tall. The sculptor says, that this artwork will destroy the stereotype of his being a creator of exclusively big sculptures.

Day of Heroes of Motherland in the Russian Academy of Arts

On April 24, 2008 to mark the 74th anniversary of the institution of the rank of the Hero of the Soviet Union, the President of the Russian Academy of Arts together with Inter-Regional Public Foundation for Social Security “Law and Order – Shield” arranged in Tsereteli Art Gallery a Day of Heroes of Motherland: Heroes of the Soviet Union; Heroes of the Russian Federation and Full Knights of the Order of Glory.

Monument to the Founder of Khabarovsk by Alexander Rukavishnikov Will Be Unveiled on the Eve of the City’s 150th Anniversary

In early May, 2008 the monument to the Russian officer Jacob Diachenko, the founder of Khabarovsk will be inaugurated near the site where the Russian troops first  landed in the region. The 4m tall bronze sculpture  to be installed on the 4m tall base has been designed by the Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Rukavisjnikov in honor of the city’s 150th anniversary.

Monument to Fyodor Dostoevsky Will Be Unveiled in Tobolsk

The monument to the great Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky sculpted by the People’s Artist of Russia, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Michael Pereyaslavets will be unveiled in Tobolosk in Dostoevsky park  near St. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral not far from the transit jail where he was pending his fate.

Descendents of the Decembrists Were Welcomed in Tsereteli Art Gallery

On April 3, 2008 the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, designer of the Wives of the Decembrists. Gates of Fate monument Zurab Tsereteli hosted a meeting with descendents of the Decembrists in Tsereteli Art Gallery.  The monument was presented to the public on March 17, 2008 and had a wide coverage in the press.

Memorial Plaque on the Apartment House in Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Commemorating the Great Galina Ulanova

A memorial plaque commemorating the great ballet dancer Galina Ulanova  will be unveiled on March 26 on the house in Kotelnicheskaya Embankment in Moscow where she lived. It has been designed by the People’s Artist of Russia, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Anatoli Bichukov.

Affiliate of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute Will Be Set Up in Kazan

On March 19, 2008 the working group of the Russian Academy of Arts and V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute headed by Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Anatoli Bichukov visited Kazan to meet with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Minister of Culture Z. Valeeva and negotiate the establishment of an affiliate of V.
