The Russian Academy Of Arts

On August 5, 2023 passed away the Perpetual Secretary of the Academie Francaise, public figure,  political scientist, specialist in Russian history and culture, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Helene Carrere d’Encausse (1929-2023). 

     “The Russian Academy of Arts is grieving over the death of the Perpetual Secretary of the Academie Francaise, historian, writer, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts madame Helene Carrere d’Encausse. The outstanding personality, whose biography has intertwined Georgian and Russian roots, madame d’Encausse has always been proud of Russian culture. Almost two dozens of her books dedicated Russian history have been published, she has made an invaluable contribution to the promotion of the bilateral relations between Russia and France. Her brilliant knowledge of the Russian language gave her a possibility to communicate directly with many scientists, figures of culture and politicians of Russia. Madame d’Encausse until the end of her life has remained a friend of this country, has been concerned about many challenges of these days and primarily what would become of our civilization in the future.

     The  Russian Academy of Arts highly appreciates the vast historical, cultural and spiritual heritage of this unique woman with encyclopedic knowledge and a big soul. On behalf of the Presidium of the Russian academy of Arts and on my own behalf I express our condolences to the family, colleagues and the near ones of madame Helene Carrere d’Encausse. The memory of her will forever remain in our hearts”.
