UNVEILING OF THE MONUMENT TO MARINA TSVETAEVA IN MOSCOW

On May 14, 2018 in the inner courtyard of the Moscow Gymnasia N1619 (20 Tallinskaya street, Moscow) there was an unveiling ceremony for the monument to one of the greatest poets in the 20th century Russian literature Marina Tsvetaeva (1892-1941) authored and presented as a gift to the Gymnasia’s museum by the People’s Artist of the USSR and Russia, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli. The 2m tall bronze monument depicts Marina Tsvetaeva sitting with a rose in her hand. Since 1996 the Moscow Gymnasia N1619 has been named after Marina Tsvetaeva and contains a museum dedicated to her creative work.
The ceremony was attended by a member of Marina Tsvetaeva’s family, the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, representatives of the  Moscow City Duma.

The sculpture is not the first dedication of the renowned sculptor to the great poet of the Silver Age: Tsereteli Art Gallery (19 Prechistenka street, Moscow) houses her sculptural portrait executed in bas relief from the artist’s series “My Contemporaries” ; one more Tsereteli’s  monument to Marina Tsvetaeva found its home in the French city of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie – one of the key places symbolizing the dialogue of Russian and French cultures.
