Marking of the 70th Anniversary of the People’s Artist of Russia Georgi Frangulyan at the Russian Academy of Arts
At the session of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts on June 10, 2015 the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli congratulated Georgi Frangulyan, one of the leading modern sculptors, People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Chevalier of the Order of the Badge of Honor, Professor of the International Academy of Architecture, winner of numerous international competitions on monumental art on his 70th jubilee and presented him with the Gold Medal “For Services to the Academy”.
On the occasion of his jubilee Georgi Fragulyan received government telegrams fr om the Prime-Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Head of the President’s Administration Sergey Ivanov, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly Sergey Naryzhkin, Advisor to the Russian President Vladimir Tolstoy wh ere there were highly appreciated his significant contribution to the promotion of Russian monumental art and his lifetime achievements.
The Chairman of the Artists’ Union of Russia Andrey Kovalchuk presented Georgi Frangulyan with the Gold Medal – the highest award of the Artists’ Union of Russia.
Georgi Frangulyan was born on May 29, 1945. In 1967 he graduated from S. Stroganov Moscow Academy of Arts and Industry. He is an author of such monuments as monument to Emperor Peter I in Antwerp, to Alexander Pushkin in Brussels, to poets Bulat Okudzhava, Joseph Brodsky, composers Aram Khachaturyan and Dmitry Shostakovich in Moscow, to President Boris Yeltsin in Ekaterinburg and Boris Yeltsin’s Memorial at Novodevichi Cemetry in Moscow, sculptural composition “Dante’s Boat” in Venice and many others.
Easel works by the master are exhibited in the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), A. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow), as well as in major museums in Russia and abroad.
