Unveiling of the Memorial Plaque to the Eminent Russian Sculptor Stepan Nefedov-Erzia (1876-1959)
On February 3, 2015 in Moscow there was an unveiling of the memorial plaque to the distinguished Russian sculptor Stepan Nefedov-Erzia (1876-1959) timed to his 140th anniversary. Named by his contemporaries “Russian Roden” Stepan Erzia has made a significant contribution to the world art culture.
A graduate of the Russian school of sculpture, Stepan Erzia has lived and worked both in Russia and other countries: in Italy (1907-1914), France (1909-1913), Azerbaijan (1921-1923), Argentine (1927-1950). Many years of his creative activity were connected with the city of Moscow. The memorial plaque has been placed on the façade of house N3 on the 2-nd Peschanaya street.
The author of the memorial plaque is Ivan Kazansky, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Winner of the Prize of the USSR Council of Ministers, Laureate of the Prize of the City of Moscow in Literature and Fine Arts, Laureate of the Arts Prize of the Society of the German-Soviet friendship, winner of Moscow and international competitions in monumental art, Chairman of the Association of Moscow Sculptors.
The memorial plaque has been sponsored by the President of S. Erzia Foundation M.R. Zhuravlev.
