“The Big Troika” Monument by the People’s Artist of Russia Zurab Tsereteli Was Unveiled in Yalta

     On February 2, 2015 in Yalta within the jubilee International Research Conference “Yalta – 1945: the Past, Present and Future” there was an unveiling ceremony for “The Big Troika” monument by the People’s Artist of Russia, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli.

The work on the sculptural composition commemorating the historical meeting of the leaders of the anti-Hitler coalition – Franklin Roosevelt, Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill at the Yalta (Crimean) Conference on February 4-7, 1945 in the Livadia Palace was completed in 2004. The bronze sculptural composition, the sculptor’s gift to Russia is 2 m high, the width – 6 m, weight – 5.5 t.

The preservation of the historical memory through art, commemoration of eminent world figures, key events in modern world history is one of the main directions of  Zurab Tsereteli’s creative activity. The theme of WWII has been reflected in Tsereteli’s major monuments such as the Victory Obelisk, “The Tragedy of Peoples” monument, the artistic design of the Church of St. George the Victorious for the War Memorial in Moscow, the “Holocaust” in Jerusalem (2005) and others.
