On September 9, 2012 the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli gave a master-class in painting at the Manezh Central Exhibition Hall within the framework of the Annual Festival of Applied Arts for Physically Challenged People and presented awards to the participants of the Festival.

The charitable activity of the renowned sculptor and artist Zurab Tsereteli is well-known in Russia. For many years he has been giving his master-classes for physically challenged children and adults, providing them with art materials, exhibition space in Tsereteli Art Gallery for their art shows, donating his works for charitable auctions. He implements his firm belief, that art plays a significant role in the life of every man, and for disabled people the creative work is a kind of a “window on the world” - an opportunity to forget for some time about illnesses, to escape from the solitude and realize their talents and abilities.

Zurab Tsereteli is also known for his international charitable actions. These are: his gift to the Special Olympic Games for physically challenged children – “Happiness to Children of the World” sculptural composition in Brockport (New York, USA. 1979); gift to the students of the State University of New York College of Arts and Science in Brockport – “Science and Education to the World” (Prometheus) sculptural composition standing in front of the University’s library (1979); gift to the United Nations – “Good Defeats Evil” monument on the north lawn of the UN Headquarters (1990) in New York. He donated his works for the charitable auction of the British Red Cross in London (1994); charitable party in favor of children in need organized by UNESCO under the auspices of the French President Jacques Chirac (Paris, 1997) and many other charitable events.
