The 150th Birth Anniversary of Konstantin Korovin (1861-1939)
The Russian Academy of Arts and V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute invite you to attend the commemoration meeting devoted to the 150th birth anniversary of Konstantin Korovin (1861-1939), one of the creators and the most important figure in Russian impressionist painting that will take place in the assembly hall of V. Surikov Art Institute (30 Tovarischesky Pereulok, Moscow) at 17.00.
The artist also contributed to the development of Art Nouveau by his architectural projects for exhibition pavilions and sketches for ceramics, furniture and textiles. He played a considerable part in reforming the Russian theater.
Konstantin Korovin was born in Moscow on December 6, 1861 in his grandfather’s house that stood on the site of the present V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute – alma mater for many generations of artists. In 1923 Korovin went abroad and settled in France, where he worked until the end of his life, mainly as a theater designer.
The jubilee is being marked by exhibitions of his works in the Russian State Museum in St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl Art Museum, V.D. Polenov Museum-Preserve (Tula Region) and Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
The program of the commemoration meeting includes:
- Ten Panels by Konstantin Korovin for the Far North Pavilion at the All-Russian Exhibition of Industry and Art in Nizhny Novgorod: Lecture by the Doctor of Art History, Professor M.F. Kiselev;
- Konstantin Korovin’s Language of Painting and Picturesque Word: Lecture by PhD, Associate Professor T.Y. Plastova
- Where Were the Brothers Konstantin and Sergey Korovin Born?: Lecture by S.I. Smirnov
- En Plein Air – 2011: Exhibition-Competition of Students’ Works in Honor of the 150th Anniversary of Konstantin Korovin.
