In the Novodevichy Cemetery Was Unveiled a Monument to the Great Choreographer Igor Moiseyev

On July, 2011 in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow there was an unveiling ceremony for the monument to Igor Moiseyev, the great choreographer, founder of the world famous Ensemble of Folk Dance (Moiseyev Ensemble), People’s Artist of the USSR, holder of State Prizes and other numerous Russian and foreign awards. The sculptural composition has been designed by the People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Rukavishnikov and architect Sergey Sharov.

The bronze monument portrays two dancers – a youth and a girl in their rehearsal clothes standing on a base depicting a map of the world.

“The monument to a creator, is certainly the most difficult task, as the creator erects monuments to himself by his creative work, his soul, his service. The long century measured off to Igor Moiseyev has proved, that people were able to draw optimism and faith in tomorrow and today” – said at the ceremony Yury Laptev, Adviser to the Russia President for Culture.
