Diplomas and Prizes Were Presented to Winners of the “Man and Space” International Competition in Honor of the 50th Anniversary of the First Manned Space Flight

On May 17, 2011at the session of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts attended by guests of honor – N.S. Koroleva, daughter of the Designer General Sergey Korolev and Alexey Leonov, spaceman, the first human to conduct a space walk, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts - there was an award ceremony for winners of the “Man and Space” International Competition organized by the Russian Academy of Arts in honor of the first manned space flight of Yury Gagarin.

Diplomas and prizes have been presented by the Head of the Jury, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli to students of the Academy art lyceums; art schools and colleges in Russia, Ukraine and other countries. In his speech addressed to the young artists Alexey Leonov said: “I have been to the Russian Academy of Arts a lot of times and each visit is exciting because the Academy has united all the best that our country has in the field of fine arts. I feel proud and think it is of big significance that it is the Russian Academy of Arts that has organized the international competition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Yury Gagarin’s first space flight. For you, young people who are making first steps in your creative career, such an event as the presentation with the Academy’s diploma with the historical Catherine the Great’s eagle is a real ticket to the future. You can always proudly say – my works have been appreciated in the Russian Academy of Arts”.
