The Russian Academy Of Arts

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight, at the request of the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka, the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR and the Russian Federation Zurab Tsereteli has created a monument to Yury Gagarin. The bronze bust, 1.0m x 89cm x 70cm, will soon be delivered and installed in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.

It is not the first sculptural work devoted by Zurab Tsereteli to the first spaceman. In 2000 in Montevideo, Uruguay was unveiled Zurab Tsereteli’s bronze bust of Yury Gagarin in the square that bears his name.
