Memorial Plaque Commemorating the Soviet Politician and Diplomat Andrei Gromyko (1909-1989) Was Unveiled in Moscow
To mark the 100th birth anniversary of the eminent diplomat and politician Andrei Gromyko, a memorial plaque designed by Zurab Tsereteli was unveiled on the wall of the house in Leontievsky Pereulok where he had lived from 1963 till 1989. Andrei Gromyko served as Foreign Minister of the Soviet Union from 1957 till 1985 and was the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet in 1985-1988.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the acting Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Minister of Culture Alexander Avdeev, representatives of the Moscow Government and the Embassy of Belarus in Moscow, officers of the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation, veterans of the diplomatic service, members of the Gromyko family.
At the ceremony the speakers noted that the personality of Andrei Gromyko had been out of the ordinary not only in the Russian but also in the world policy, as well as emphasized his great contribution to strengthening of the prestige of Russia in the world and its national security, his distinguished role in the diplomatic service improvement.
