The Russian Academy of Arts Welcomed a Chinese Delegation of Artists

On October 6, 2009 in the Russian Academy of Arts there was a friendly meeting of the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, members of the Presidium with a delegation of notable Chinese artists timed to the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It has been held within the framework of the project “Peace Tour” uniting Chinese artists who live in various countries.  

 

In his greeting speech Zurab Tsereteli has congratulated the Chinese colleagues on the jubilee and stressed, that art is powerful means in uniting people worldwide,  as its language is universal and understood by all nations. “Masters of the Russian Academy of Arts have had a long history of creative contacts with Chinese artists, many of whom are alumni of Russian art institutes and these ties are being expanded” – said Tsereteli. 

 

Zhang Deguang, head of the Chinese delegation and President of the Chinese Foundation for International Studies noted, that he was pleased to have an opportunity to meet with masters of the Russian Academy of Arts and highly appreciated the works by Zurab Tsereteli he could see in the Art Gallery. “I am impressed by your multisided and extraordinary talent” -  he said.

 

During the meeting, the Chinese and Russian artists exchanged their views on problems of contemporary art, in particular, on further development of academic realistic school. The leading art historians of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Yakimovich and Andrei Tolstoy noted the multiple meaning and capacity of the notion “realism”. The Chinese artists stressed the viability of realism as a method of art practice which is in much demand  in China. The Rector of V. Surikov Moscow Academy Art Institute Anatoly Bichukov appreciated the diligence of the Chinese students studying at the Institute he heads, who  are eager to become proficient in fine arts. He also presented V. Surikov Medals to five noted Chinese artists.

 

Seven Chinese masters were awarded the Academy Diplomas. The Chinese delegation, for its part, presented brushes and paints as a gift to students of the Moscow Academy Art Lyceum and expressed the hope for further strengthening of contacts with the Russian Academy of Arts.
