Zurab Tsereteli took part in the Opening of the Russian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale – 53rd International Art Exhibition

 

The Russian pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale opened  to the public on 4th June 2009 in the Giardini. The opening ceremony was attended by the Russian Minister of Culture Alexander Avdeev, President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli,  Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Tair Salakhov. The curator of the contemporary Russian art display titled Victory Over the Future is Olga Sviblova, the commissioner – Vasily Tsereteli. 

 

The Opening and Awards Ceremony of the  53rd International Art Exhibitions titled Making Worlds and  directed by Daniel Birnbaum took place on 6th June 2009 in the Giardini. Participating countries are amounting to the record number of 77 with exhibitions in their own pavilions, and  further 44 collateral events  from international institutes and organizations are exhibited in various other locations around the city of Venice. 

 

The International  Jury has been chaired by Angela Vettese (Italy) and comprised: Jack Bankowsky (USA);  Homi  K. Bhabba (India); Sarat Maharaj (South-Africa);  and Julia Voss (Germany).  On 6th June 2009 the Jury assigned the official awards -  Golden and Silver Lions – of the 53rd International Art Exhibition.

 

The Venice Biennale, which history began in 1895, is one of the oldest art exhibitions in the world.   

 

The 53rd International Art Exhibition will be held from 7th June to 22nd November 2009.
