Program of Cultural Cooperation Between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea Was Signed in the Russian Academy of Arts

On March 23, 2009 the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Alexander Avdeev and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) Yu In-chon signed a Program of Cultural Cooperation between the two countries.

In his speech the Culture Minister Alexander Avdeev has noted, that the agreement is a major event in the relations between Russia and South Korea. “The relations between our countries are strengthening efficiently in all the areas of public and political life. It is significant, that there is an intensive program of cultural events that includes is a Festival of Russian Culture in the Republic of Korea and Festival of South Korea in Russia to be held in 2010”.

Alexander Avdeev has emphasized, that the agreement has been timed to the 20th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two nations. “Among the most important aspects of the Program is our collaboration in cinematography where it is planned to use Korean technologies in film production. The Festival program offers guest performances of leading opera theatres, concerts, exchange of students, etc. It is of no small importance, that the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In-chon is a prominent figure of culture, TV shows with his participation are very popular in South Korea”.

In his address Yu In-chon stressed the significance of the above Program as well as intergovernmental agreements in many other spheres of politics and economy signed between the two nations last September. He thanked the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli for hospitality and expressed his hope for further creative contacts with the Academy.
