Zurab Tsereteli is a Winner of “Fame” Award 2009

On March 13, 2009 the annual “Fame” (“Izvestnost”) Award of Izvestia newspaper and publishing house was presented to the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli. The “Fame” award was set up in 2005 by the oldest Russian newspaper established in 1917 to recognize achievements of prominent figures of culture, business, politics and sports.

“We believe, that these people work for the benefit of Motherland, they have made significant contribution to the complicated and diverse, but extremely full of events life” -  said Vladimir Mamontov,  Izvestia Editor-in-Chief at the opening of the award ceremony.  The winners of “Fame” award 2009 are also Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov,  art director of “Sovremennik” theatre Galina Volchek, singer Nikolai Rastorguev, Chief of Staff of the Long-Haul Air Force Major General Anatoly Zhikharev,  defender of the “Bronze Soldier” monument in Estonia Dmitry Linter, Natalia Rogozina who has been a boxing champion of the world seven times and “Name of Russia” project by Russia TV channel.    

In 2008 the winners were: writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn, film director Nikita Mikhalkov, Olympian eurhythmics champion Alina Kabaeva, ombudsman Vladimir Lukin.
