The 85th Anniversary of the Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Andrei Vasnetsov
On February 24, 2009 Andrei Vasnetsov, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR, Winner of the USSR State Prize, Professor, a successor of the unique Vasnetsov dynasty of artists is celebrating his 85th anniversary.
Andrei V. Vasnetsov has been raised in the family of his grandfather, a celebrated Russian artist Victor M. Vasnetsov in the atmosphere of true art. The range of Andrei Vasnetsov’s creative interests includes easel painting, mosaic panels, monumental works, sculpture, tapestries, interior and exterior design of public buildings. Among the artist’s most famous works are: mosaic panel “Space Explorers” in K. Tsiolkovsky State Museum of Astronautics in Kaluga (1966); mosaic panel in “October” cinema and concert hall in Moscow (1967); decorative lamps on pylons of the façade of M. Gorky Moscow Art Theatre (1973); high relief “Glory to the Heroes” for the War Museum in Great Luki; metal decorative composition “Steam Engine, Steamship, Balloon” for the city of Togliatti; interior design of the Russian restaurant in the World Trade Center in Moscow; interior design of the State Theatre of Tuva in Kyzyl; interior design of the Russian Embassy in Bonn (Germany). For the mosaic “Man and Press” in the interior of Izvestia newspaper building (1977) Andrei Vasnetsov and N. Andronov were awarded the USSR State Prize.
From 1988 till 1992 Andrei Vasnetsov headed the Union of USSR Artists. Professor Andrei Vasnetsov taught drawing in the Moscow State Academy of Press.
