Helene Carrere d’Ancosse Is an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts
On December 8, 2008 at the award ceremony in the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli presented attributes of an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts to Helene Carrere d’Ancosse, Permanent Secretary of the French Academy of Sciences.
Helene Carrere d’Ancosse is a historian, political scientist, prominent expert on Russia. In 1992, she held a post of the adviser to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. In 1994, Helene Carrere d’Ancosse was elected a member of the European Parliament. In 1990, she was elected a member of the French Academy of Sciences and became its Permanent Secretary in 1999.
Dmitry Shvidkovski, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts has noted her significant contribution to the world science and culture as well as to the promotion of Russian history. “Helene Carrere d’Ancosse is a bearer of three branches of culture: Russian, French and Georgian (born Zurabishvili) and is not only an eminent expert on the past and present, she has a gift to foresee and many of her forecasts have come true”.
Dmitry Shvidkovski also said that Helene Carrere d’Ancosse is an author of over 40 books on Russian history and culture. A Member of the Presidium Victor Vanslov has reminded that among members of the Imperial Academy of Arts there was the French philosopher and art critic Denis Diderot and the ties between the two Academies are being maintained: the Year of France in Russia and Russia in France in 2010 will be a good proof of it.
Helene Carrere d’Ancosse expressed her gratitude for the high appreciation of her work.
