Inauguration of New International Research and Methodological Seminar: Spatial Icons. The Textual and Performative

On October 10, 2008 in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street,  on the initiative of Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, will be inaugurated a new International  Seminar: Spatial Icons. The Textual and Performative to be held within the framework of EIDOS  Research, Educational and Innovation Program.

The scientific supervisor of the Seminar is Alexei Lidov, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Arts for Research and Innovation Programs, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

The Seminar is due to be held from October, 2008 through June, 2009. It will be finalized by the International Symposium: Spatial Icons. The Textual and Performative in June, 2009, publication of its proceedings as well as other books and albums devoted to major projects of spatial icons in the world art (e.g. New Jerusalem. Spatial Icon of the Holy Land).

Among the participants of the Seminar and Symposium will be leading art historians and renowned artists  from many countries. The debates between the art historians and representatives of actual art will help to define and concretize diverse aspects of modern art culture.

The Seminar will be launched by Alexei Lidov’s report “Spatial Icons and Images-Paradigms as New Notions of Art Culture” to be followed by a wide discussion.
