Ilya and Emilia Kabakov Have Been Elected Honorary Members of the Russian Academy of Arts

On September 17, 2008 at the award ceremony in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts, 21 Prechistenka street, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov were presented with attributes of an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

In his greeting speech, Zurab Tsereteli expressed his regret, that the high honor was awarded to the celebrated artists with such a delay.

The “classics” of Moscow conceptual art Ilya and Emilia Kabakov are among the top ten in the list of world art ratings. Their works, many of which have become symbolic in the 20th century art, are in collections of major world museums.

From September 15 to October 19, 2008 the first in Moscow retrospective of artworks by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov will be held in three locations: the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts; “Garage” Center for Contemporary Culture; “Winzavod” Center of Modern Art.
