Annual Y. Orekhov Prizes Will Be Awarded to Young Sculptors

On June 10, 2008 in the Museum “Creative Legacy of Academician Yuri Orekhov” will be held the forth annual award ceremony for Y. Orekhov Prizes in the field of sculpture. The Prize was set up in 2005 by the Sculptor Foundation  and the above Museum under the auspices of the Russian Academy of Arts to foster young talented sculptors. Yuri Orekhov (1927-2001) is one of the  prominent Russian sculptors of the late 20th century who was appreciated both in Russia and internationally. He was a Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts and Honorary Member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara (Italy), winner of Lenin and State Prizes. 

Among the nominees are students of the studio headed by Alexander Rukavishnikov in V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute, studio led by A. Neverov in I. Repin St. Petersburg State Academy Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, students of S. Stroganov Moscow State Art and Industrial University, Moscow State Academy Art Lyceum and B. Ioganson St. Petersburg State Academy Art Lyceum.

The ceremony will be attended by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, Director-General of the Sculptor Foundation Grigory Orekhov, heads and teachers of art institutions, members of the Russian Academy of Arts.
