Zurab Tsereteli Received the Chilean Order of Bernardo O’Higgins
On October 26, 2007 Augusto Parra Munos, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chile to the Russian Federation presented the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Zurab Tsereteli with the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins in the highest rank of Grand Cross The award is in recognition of the role that Zurab Tsereteli has played in fostering bilateral relations between Chile and Russia and his outstanding creative work.
The decoration, which bears the name of General Bernardo O’Higgins, the founder and Liberator of the Republic of Chile, was created in 1956 to honor outstanding foreign officials in the fields of trade, industry, science, education and art. It has five ranks, the highest of which is the Knight of Grand Cross.
The Order of Bernardo O’Higgins in the rank of Grand Cross was also awarded to Vladimir Chkhikvadze, the Head of Security Department of the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation.
The ceremony that took place in Tsereteli Art Gallery (19, Prechistenka str., Moscow) was attended by foreign ambassadors to Russia, members of the Russian Academy of Arts, representatives of Chilean Embassy.
