Unveiling Ceremony for the Monument to Oleg of Ryazan by Zurab Tsereteli
The bronze equestrian statue of Oleg of Ryazan sculptured by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli was dedicated in Ryazan on October 28, 2007 within the framework of events in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Ryazan region. Prince Oleg of Ryazan ruled in 1351-1402 and is known for his fighting for independence of the Ryazan principality.
The 3 m tall monument on the granite base, more than 5 m high, has found its home in the old part of the city near the Ryazan Kremlin on the Cathedral Square.
The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Ryazan region George Shpak, members of the regional government, sculptor Zurab Tsereteli and members of the Russian Academy of Arts.
