Symposium of European Academies “Academies in Europe of the 21st Century”
On October 21 -23, 2007 the Institute of France, the French Academy, Academy of Humanities, Academy of Sciences, Academy of Fine Arts, Academy of Moral Sciences and Politics will hold in Paris a symposium of European academies “Academies in Europe of the 21st Century”.
The program includes a visit to the Conde Museum of the chateau de Chantilly and two sessions: “The Academies Face the State and Society” presided over by the Chancellor of the Institute of France Mr. Gabriel de Broglier and “Academies: Memory, Research and Creativity” under the chairmanship of the Permanent Secretary of the French Academy Mrs. Helene Carrere d’Encausse.
The closing ceremony will take place in the grand hall under the cupola of the Institute of France after the annual general meeting of the five Academies on the topic “European Academies: National Identity and Universality of Spirit”.
The Institute of France, one of the oldest academies in Europe, has always placed high emphasis on fostering relations with other European academies. The Russian Academy of Arts, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary in 2007, will be represented at the symposium by its President Zurab Tsereteli and Vice-President, Academician-Secretary of the Art History Department Dmitri Shvidkovski. The organizers will be honored to see delegates from European academies at the symposium aimed at expanding a dialogue between the academies.
