The Stars of the Volga exhibition in Beijing has been organized by the Russian Academy of Arts and timed to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and Russia. The project is a rare opportunity to see over 100 works of painting and graphic art by noted artists of the Soviet period and today’s Russia fr om authors’ and private collections.  The exhibition concept covers the following themes.  In “The Light of Nature” section that includes 52 works of landscape painting the visitors can see remote fields and majestic mountain ranges, autumn forests shimmering in different shades and snowy winter landscapes, as well as can get an idea of the diverse and amazing nature of the vast expanses of Russia. The second section - “The Light of Humanism” offers 31 portraits featuring people of different ages and professions, most of them are ordinary people living everyday life. The exhibition space creates the impression of direct communication with people depicted in the portraits and immerses the viewers in their own associations and memories.

“The Light of the Soul” section showcases 27 works of different themes and art styles. These are figurative works and abstract paintings with different texture of canvases, clear lines and expressive swirling brush strokes. Here, one can see cubism in the manner of Picasso, bright and extraordinary colored spots typical to Matisse, works of various innovative trends in painting. This block of the exhibition invites us to new insights into art world wh ere passion and imagination intertwine revealing the depths of human soul.
