The traveling trans-Asian Art and Enlightenment Project “In the Land of the Emerald Buddha” in honor of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Thailand has been organized under the auspices of the Russian Academy of Arts (RAA) in 2021. For several years, the Project’s exhibitions curated by the RAA Academicians Mikhail Y. Shishin and Vladimir N. Anisimov have been displayed at 22 museums of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East and attracted over 700000 viewers including representatives of the local authorities, diplomats, figures of culture and art, as well as a wide public. Recently, there has been published “The Land of the Emerald Buddha” art album (2024) dedicated to the above exhibition project that contains more than 200 artworks created by artists-members of the Russian Academy of Arts during their numerous expeditions in Thailand supported by the Foreign Ministries of Russia and the Kingdom of Thailand.
The final exhibition will be presented in the Apple Hall of the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts (Tsereteli Art Gallery, 19 Prechistenka street, Moscow). The visitors will have a good opportunity to see canvases by the RAA Academicians Rustam I. Yaushev (1937-2017) and Vladimir N. Amisimov; the RAA Corresponding Members Konstantin S. Voinov, Marina A. Kabysh, Olga R. Yausheva, as well as graphic sheets by Nikolai N. Karazin (1842-1908) and decorative art of noted contemporary masters. The Oriental theme in works by many artists is a result of the interaction of cultures with ancient history and deep traditions.
