SCIENCE AND ART – WAYS OF KNOWLEDGE: SCIENTIFIC AND EXHIBITION PROJECT OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS IN HONOR OF THE 300TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

The Scientific and Exhibition Project “Science and Art – Ways of Knowledge” is part of the program of events in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The joint Jubilee Session of the Presidiums of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Russian Academy of Arts will take place in the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts on May 14, 2024.
“Explore Everywhere and Every Hour What is Great and Beautiful” – these words by Mikhail Lomonosov most clearly reflect the concept of this Academic Project. The way of knowledge of the world and self-knowledge that a human has been carrying out throughout the course of history is the Project’s principle topic uniting scientists and artists.
The vast exposition to be shown in eight exhibition halls presents architectural projects, paintings, sculptures, works of graphics, decorative and applied arts, design, photography, multi-media and innovative art trends. Visitors will see masterpieces of the eminent Russian masters - Zurab Tsereteli, Pavel Nikonov, Boris Messerer, Victor Kalinin, Anatoly Lyubavin, Mikhail Posokhin, Alexander Ponomarev, Yury Avvakumov and other Academicians of the Russian Academy of Arts and the Russian Academy of Sciences dedicated to outstanding scientists and great scientific discoveries. Among the examples of the creative and scientific unity are unique art photographs of the spaceman, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Fyodor N. Yurchikhin , paintings by the pilot-spaceman Vladimir Dzhanibekov, as well as extraordinary works by young artists and architects, graduates of Academic institutes and Creative Workshops of the Russian Academy of Arts in Russian regions. The historical exhibits include drawings by the ethnographer, anthropologist, biologist and traveler Nikolai Miklukho-Maklai; expedition sketches and illustrations by the geographer, botanist and traveler Petr Semenov –Tyan – Shansky, materials from the funds of the Research Archive of the Russian Geographic Society and other entities. The copies of rare archive materials such as draft decrees related to the foundation of the Academy of Arts and Sciences, fragments of other documents about the most important historical stages in the development of these two Academies emphasize the interaction of science and art for three centuries. Several dozens of state entities, museums, galleries and private collectors have been involved in this Academic project in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
