MEMBERS OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS ARE PARTICIPANTS OF “THE IMAGE OF BHARATA OR I HAVE FOUND YOU, INDIA” EXHIBITION IN VLADIVOSTOK

The Primorsksya State Picture Gallery hosts “The Image of Bharata or I Have Found You, India” exhibition presenting works of various types and genres by more than 30 artists fr om many regions of Russia. The exhibition has been timed to the 75th anniversary of the Russian-Indian diplomatic relations and the 150th birth anniversary of the eminent Russian artist Nikolai K. Roerich (1874-1947). The core of the display is works by the members of the Russian Academy of Arts, these are A.M. Belashev (1933-2011), Y.S. Voinov, Y.V. Kopeiko (1933-2010), V.A. Maloletkov, M.P. Miturich-Khlebnikov (1925-2008), S.M. Nikireyev (1932-2007), V.I. Pereyaslavets (1918-2018), A.A. Pokrovsky, A.K. Polkovnichenko, N.A. Ponomarev (1918-1997), L.I. Savelieva, N.N. Solomin, V.P. Teplov, R.I. Yaushev (1937-2017), O.R. Yausheva and others.
The above artists have been members of the expeditions headed by the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Vladimir N. Anisimov and actually were the first who started the restoration of Nikolai K. Roerich’s estate in the north of India, wh ere the “Urusvati” Institute of Himalayan Studies is located. Set up by the family of the Master, it was aimed at summarizing the huge volume of materials resulted from the unprecedented Trans-Asian expedition vividly described by Nikolai Roerich in the book “Altai - Himalayas”.
After the death of Nikolai K. Roerich in 1947 and the decease of his spouse Elena I. Roerich in 1955 the “Urusvati” Institute had great difficulties. The groups of Russian artists have done a tremendous amount of work, brought the buildings, archives and collections into proper state, as well as created a lot of remarkable drawings and canvases. Later, the artists made a number of major and long expeditions across India. Their works have been exhibited in the Lalit Kala Academy of Arts (India), in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Academy of Arts and now they will be presented in museums and galleries of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Komsomolsk-on-the Amur, Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kemerovo, Tomsk, Novokuznetsk, Barnaul, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Tyumen, Ekaterinburg, Nizhny Tagil and other cities of the Siberia and Far East.
