EXHIBITION OF WORKS BY VASILY BUBNOV (1942-2021) AT THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS

The Russian Academy of Arts presents an exhibition of works by the Honored Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Vasily Bubnov (1942-2021) dedicated to the artist’s 80th birth anniversary. The exhibition features more than 30 works created by the artist for the last two years of his life and never displayed before.

 

Vasily Bubnov is one of the leading masters of Russian fine arts, a distinguished painter, monumental and graphic artist. His works are in collections of many Russian and international museums, art galleries and private collections. Vasily Bubnov belongs to the generation of artists whose creative career started in the late 1960s. He was born in Moscow in 1942 into the artists’ family (well-known is his father’s - Alexander Bubnov’s canvas “Morning at the Field of Kulikovo) and was absorbed in the atmosphere of art since his childhood. In 1967 he graduated from the Monumental Painting Department of S. Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry. At different stages of his life in art he worked as a monumental artist in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Togliatti, in the Ukraine and together with his spouse V.S. Shaposhnikova was involved in the interior decoration of the Theater of Musical Comedy in Odessa. In partnership with G.Y. Smolyakov Bubnov worked at the decoration of the “Pushkinskaya” and “Pechatniky” Metro stations, the House of Veterans in Matveevskoye district in Moscow. As a member of the Russian team he participated in the decoration of the “Moscovskaya” subway station in Prague. In Gothenburg (Sweden) Bubnov authored the interior decoration of the reception hall of the USSR Consulate General, as well as interior of the USSR Embassy in Nouakchott (Mauritania). Together with Ekaterina Bubnova he executed a panel for the Moscow metro station “Petrovsky Park”.

 

Vasily Bubnov has also worked in various types of easel art including painting, graphics and architecture design. He is one of the recognized masters of landscape painting. His canvases have mostly resulted from his numerous trips across the country, many of them are dedicated to his native Moscow which he devotedly loved. Well-known are his series “Paris”, “France”, “Athos”, “Uruguay”, “100 Unofficial Portraits of Moscow”, “Country House”, etc.

 

He has been one of the leaders of Moscow art. For many years Vasily Bubnov headed the Moscow Union of Artists and the Management Board of the Section of Artists of Monumental and Decorative Art of the Moscow Union of Artists, Chaired the Moscow Department of Art Foundation being simultaneously engaged in administrative and creative and exhibition activity. The exhibition presents the artist’s works of 2021 from the collection of the Bubnov family.
