THE LINK OF GENERATIONS: EXHIBITION OF THE PEOPLE’S ARTIST OF RUSSIA GALINA WIESEL AND MEMBERS OF THE WIESEL DYNASTY AT THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS

The Russian Academy of Arts presents an exhibition of the People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Galina Wiesel and members of the Wiesel dynasty. Entitled the Link of Generations the major retrospective features paintings and graphics, ceramics, photography and design works produced by the artists in various years.

 

Galina Wiesel has philosophically and emotionally studied and penetrated into the theme of the culture of peoples of the North. She was born in Tyumen in 1941 and devoted many years of her work to understanding the artistic legacy of Yugra. Her works combine mythological and aesthetic traditions of the Yugran inhabitants – Khanty and Mansi and their modern interpretations.

 

Galina Wiesel graduated from the Art Ceramics Department of A. Ostrovsky Theater and Art Institute in Tashkent, lives and works in Khanty-Mansiysk. She has been a participant in more than 200 exhibition projects including group and solo shows and is a holder of the Order “For Services to the Fatherland” II Rank. Professor Wiesel is actively involved in teaching activity and has trained more than one generation of young artists.

 

On display at the Russian Academy of Arts are her works of various genres and techniques, as well as graphic sheets of the Honored Artist of Russia Alexander G. Wiesel, design projects of Gleb and Natalia Wiesel, ceramics by Inga Samurskaya-Wiesel, photographs by Kirill Samursky, painting and graphics of Nika Wiesel.

 

The exhibition will be accompanied by presentation of Galina Wiesel’s monograph summarizing the long-term career of the unique artist, as well as the panel discussion “Myths, Epic Legends in Modern Decorative and Folk Art. On the Problem of the Mythological Consciousness of an Artist”, that will take place on April 1, 2022 in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts.
