MAJOR RETROSPECTIVE OF WORKS BY THE PEOPLE’S ARTIST OF RUSSIA GENNADY MYZNIKOV AT THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF ARTS

The Russian Academy of Arts presents a major retrospective of works by the People’s Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Gennady Myznikov timed to the artist’s 85th anniversary.

Gennady Myznikov is one of the most distinguished representatives of the artists’ generation of the 1960-s sharing the common interest in the truth of life and socially significant topics. His creative career started in the period of “thaw” and later went through the challenging events of the last decades. The exhibition presents almost 80 paintings: portraits, landscapes, historical canvases, genre composition of various years fr om the 1950-s till today providing a good opportunity to trace the creative evolution of the master.

Gennady Myznikov was born in Orekhovo-Zuevo in 1933. He studied at the art college of the Dulevo Porcelain Factory wh ere majored in painting on porcelain. In 1956 he graduated from V. Mukhina Leningrad Higher College of Arts and Industry (Department of Monumental Painting).

Through all his creative life Gennady Myznikov has remained true to the Russian school of painting, which according to his words, is now the strongest in the world in depth, scale, professionalism, wealth of a wide variety of traditions. The works of the master are in collections of major Russian state art museums, as well as in private collections.
