JUBILEE EXHIBITION OF THE HONORED ARTIST OF RUSSIA VASILY BUBNOV

The exhibition at the Russian Academy of Arts is timed to the 75th anniversary of the Honored Artist of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Vasily Bubnov. Vasily Bubnov is one of the distinguished masters of Russian fine arts, painter, graphic artist, monumentalist, participant of numerous exhibitions in Russia and other countries.  His works are in collections of major Russian and foreign museums, as well as in private collections.

The jubilee exhibition presents 120 works of the master created for the last decade. These are graphic works produced during his trips to France, Greece, Uruguay united in vast cycles; easel paintings on urgent themes of public importance.

Vasily Bubnov belongs to the generation of artists of the late 1960-s. He was born in 1942 in the family of artists (his father Alexander Bubnov is an author of the well-known historical canvas “The Morning in the Field of Kulikovo) and since his childhood was surrounded by art. In 1967 he graduated fr om S. Stroganov Moscow Academy of Arts and Industry wh ere he majored in monumental painting.  At different stages of his career he worked as a monumentalist in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Togliatti, decorated the Theater of Music Comedy in Odessa together with his spouse V.S. Shaposhnikova. In partnership with G. Y. Smolyansky the artist worked at the interior of Pushkinskaya subway station in Moscow, as a member of the artists’ team was involved in the interior decoration of Moskovskaya subway station in Prague (Czech Republic). Vasily Bubnov was in charge of the decoration of the reception hall in the Soviet Consulate-General  (Goteborg, Sweden), as well as the interior of Russian Embassy in Nouakchott (Mauritania).

Vasily Bubnov is also a recognized master of landscape painting. A native  Muscovite, he has been living in Moscow for the whole life. To his beloved city the artist devoted his numerous paintings and graphic series. He paints both magnificent facades of historical buildings and forgotten corners of old Moscow, cathedrals, churches, monasteries and modern buildings of diverse shapes. He works in pencil, pastel, oil considering, that for the artist it is not so important in what technique or genre he works, “all depends on what goals the artist sets”.

Vasily Bubnov is actively involved in public life. He is a Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Section of Monumental and Decorative Arts of the Moscow Union of Artists which he headed for more than 10 years.
