The Russian Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of the Azerbaijan Republic in the Russian Federation, Representation of Geidar Aliev Foundation in the RF and Artists’ Union of Azerbaijan present a solo exhibition of Abbas Kyazimov at the State Museum of Oriental Art dedicated to the artist’s 60th anniversary.  On display are almost 100 works from his series “Red and Black”, “Dedication to Pirosmani” and “In the Carpet Style”.

Abbas Kyazimov is a painter, graphic artist, sculptor, actor, bump artist. He is an Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Member of the Artists’ Union of Azerbaijan, Member of the International Confederation of Artists. In 1978 Kyazimov graduated from A. Azimzade Azerbaijan Art College, in 1985 – the Art and Graphic Department of the State Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute. His solo shows were in Moscow (1986, 1993, 1994, 1996, 2011), Salerno (1989), Washington and New York (1995), Cannes (1999), Baku (2013).

Abbas Kyazimov is one of the most famous followers of the Absheron School – a group of artists, who largely determined the originality of the 20th century Azerbaijani art.  Original artists were inspired not only by innovations of the 20th century European painting, but also by the folk culture of pre-Columbus America, India and Africa.

From his older contemporaries Abbas Kyazimov has perceived a tendency to release a picture of literal lifelikeness. Kyazimov became an author of a unique technique combining the Oriental culture and classical school of fine arts. The so called “carpet style” synthesized a miniature, carpet making, embroidery and hammering. Tales heard in his childhood, ornaments of oriental carpets, intricate patterns of his grandmother’s handmade works, stars of Azerbaijan sky at night – all these have found a reflection in the artist’s canvases.

Works by Abbas Kyazimov are in the State Museum of Oriental Art, State Tretyakov Gallery, I. Savitsky State Museum of Fine Arts, as well as in other museum and private collections in Russia and other countries.
