The Century of Painting. Maria Fedorova and Daniel Fedorov: Exhibition at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Paris

The masters of painting, graphic art and theatrical costume Maria Fedorova and Daniel Fedorov present in Paris the art of the celebrated Moscow dynasty of painters Osipov-Fedorov, that has been creating works of art for more than one hundred years. The President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli will attend the exhibition’s opening ceremony for a welcoming address.

This is the first presentation of the art of one of the oldest and most distinguished Russian art dynasties to the French public. The exhibition features almost forty works of painting and graphic art from the family’s private collection.

The Honored Artist of Russia, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Maria Fedorova continues the traditions of the theatrical and decorative art of the early 20th century, the famous Russian seasons in Paris. The exhibition  features  her graphic sheets from the noted easel series “Cities”, “Fabulous Beasts”, “Buffoons”, sketches for costumes of the 1980-2010s including sketches for costumes for concert programs of the Russian Song group led by Nadezhda Babkina. Visitors will be able to sense the atmosphere of the many-colored  Russian fair.  

Daniel Fedorov has penetrated into the secrets of the profession first in his family, subsequently at V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute. On display in Paris are his portraits of Russian novelists and poets – Alexander Pushkin, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Alexander Block, famous actresses of silent films, stars of Soviet and Russian ballet, legendary actors and actresses of world cinematograph – Pierre Richard, Elizabeth Tailor, Audrey Hepburn. Of special interest are the artist’s landscapes of top sights of Moscow. His tribute to the memory of his ancestors is his still life “My Grandfather’s  Palette”. The  artist’s large canvases add a positive and decorative sounding to this art show of Russian painting.

The exhibition’s historical section showcases the work by Alexander Osipov, these are landscapes of St. Petersburg and Pereyaslavl-Zalessky, as well as graphic art by Tamara Osipova on the themes “Ballet” and “Figure Skating”. The beauty of Russian nature  is depicted in perfect landscapes of Vladislav Fedorov.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a film “The Life and Work of Artists from the Osipov-Fedorov Dynasty from the 1910-s till today”, documents from the family’s archives, a booklet “The Century of Painting. The Art of the Osipov-Fedorov  Dynasty” in the Russian and French languages.
