Tsereteli Art Gallery
19 Prechistenka street, Moscow

The Russian Academy of Arts in partnership with the Moscow Museum of Modern Art present a solo show of the British artist Jonathan Luke. The exhibition entitled  Meditation Landscapes features more than forty paintings and photographs. Curator – Sasha Burkhanova (Great Britain).

The artist is a descendent of one of the English noted painters John Frederick Herring, Senior (1795-1865) known for depicting horses and horse races. Jonathan started his career in the financial business. He has always been keen on art and collected works by British masters of the 19th century as well as the 20th century Russian painting. Having given up his financial career he decided to devote himself to creative work and graduated fr om Slade School of Fine Arts in London.

The exhibition is a visualization of the artist’s travel notes wh ere landscapes-fantasies and landscapes-reminiscences coexist in his paintings. His works document his sensations and images accumulated during his trips to Scotland and Russia for the last 20 years.  “I experiment with juxtaposition of various colors and layers of oil paint trying to create an illusion of 3D in a two-dimensional space. The result is always amazing and unpredictable. The combination of photography and painting forms a new dimension and it is this juxtaposing that interests me most of all” – says Jonathan Luke.

The artist’s works have been exhibited in England and Scotland, as well as they are in private collections of Russian and British connoisseurs of art.
