Amazing World: Solo Show of Works by Abbas Kyazimov in Tsereteli Art Gallery

Organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Moscow, the Artists’ Union of Azerbaijan, the Russian Academy of Arts, the exhibition presents a major retrospective of works by Abbas Kyazimov including over 100 paintings and a graphic series “Dedication to Pirosmani”.

Abbas Kyazimov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan in 1956. He graduated from the Baku Art College and the Institute of Arts. Since 1979 the artist has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Russia and abroad together with such noted masters as Michael Shemyakin, Ernest Neizvestny, Anatoly Zverev. His solo shows were held in Moscow, Washington, Cannes and other cities of the world. Abbas Kyazimov is a member of the Artists’ Union of Azerbaijan, member of the Artists’ Union of Russia, International Federation of Artists (UNESCO).

Abbas Kyazimov is a distinguished representative of the Absheron school of painting, an author of the unique technique of “carpet style”, that is a synthesis of multi-sided Oriental culture and classical school of fine arts.

The artist has absorbed the old traditions and contemporary art of the Caucasus. In his paintings one can see symbols of eternal life on earth such as birds, turtles, horses and other animals, which images the artist uses for the expression of his reflections on the surrounding world.

Works from the Red and Black cycle differ from colorful paintings executed in the “carpet style” both in the contents and contrast color scheme.

“I wanted to entitle the exhibition “Peace and War”, as my generation has had to undergo the ordeals of the war, reforms, default, immigration, partings” - says the artist about the concept of his solo show in Tsereteli Art Gallery. “I have gone through all these trials and they could not but have been reflected in my works”.

Nevertheless, Abbas Kyazimov defines his show as an “Amazing World” because he can not help admiring the surrounding nature and the world where there is everything to live in happiness. “We have no right to destroy the Harmony! We should be creative, love and respect all the living and each other”, - says the artist.

Works by Abbas Kyazimov are in collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, in many museums and private collections in Russia and other countries.
