Solo Show of Works by the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Albina Akritas at the Russian Academy of Arts

The Russian Academy of Arts presents paintings, graphic and monumental works by the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Professor Albina Akritas.

Albina Akritas is well-known in Russia and other countries. Her paintings and graphic works including portraits, landscapes, still lifes, monumental compositions are distinguished by a high professional skill, deep contents and extraordinary plastic thinking. In her works, that are poetic, refined and full of associations the rich and complicated color scheme carries the key meaning and emotions.

Albina Akritas has been constantly experimenting in her search of new ideas, topics and media. The centerpieces of the display at the Russian Academy of Arts are the artist’s works dedicated to Greece, which history and nature have been a constant source of inspiration for her. Albina Akritas recreates events from legends and myths of Ancient Greece showing a wide panorama of scenes depicting the life of ancient Greeks and Gods.

Of big interest are the artist’s works from her series devoted to A. Pushkin’s “Don Juan”, “Queen of Spades” and other novels. On show are also paintings dedicated to Spain, a vast portrait gallery of our contemporaries executed in a classical manner and marked by psychological insight. In her works on the Biblical topic Albina Akritas penetrates into the inner world of characters of the past highlighting the spirit of different times.

Albina Akritas is an author of the pictorial interpretation of one of the legends of the ancient world “History of Psyche” – a cycle of seven monumental panels that decorate the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts in Moscow. At the early 20th century the walls of the above White Hall were adorned by canvases on the same topic created by Maurice Denis.

Works by Albina Akritas are in collections of major Russian museums and private collections in other countries.
