Exhibition of Graphic Works and Ceramics by Vladimir Gorislavtsev in the Russian Academy of Arts

Organized to mark the 70th jubilee and the 40th anniversary of creative work of the renowned master of decorative and applied arts, Honored Artist of Russia, Member of the International Academy of Ceramics, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Vladimir Gorislavtsev, the retrospective show presents more than 150 drawings, ceramic and porcelain artworks, highly glazed pottery that reveal the artist’s wide range of creative activity.

Vladimir Gorislavtsev graduated from V. Mukhina Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) Higher School of Arts and Industry, for several years worked as a chief designer at the Leningrad Porcelain Factory “Stroyfarfor”. He is a distinguished representative of the Leningrad school of ceramics, a member of the legendary group “One Composition”, that was a symbol of innovative searches. In his works the artist affirms the true qualities of the material, its artistic diversity, the significance of a plastic form and sophistication of a palette, intellectualism and richness of contents of decorative artworks.

His painting is powerful and expressive. In his ceramic painting Vladimir Gorislavtsev very delicately portrays a linear rhythm of St. Petersburg architecture, the pulse of the city life, cold colors of his favorite northern city. He is a true singer of St. Petersburg, who deeply feels it and creates its poetic image.

Vladimir Gorislavtsev is not only a perfect painter and graphic artist, but also a ceramic sculptor. He uses a fire clay layer which determines the accuracy of forms. His three-dimensional compositions contain an intricate drawing of streets and buildings increasing the impression of a sculptural likeness. In the artist’s works the plastic art is always combined with painting and the form – with the color.

A native of Altai, Vladimir Gorislavtsev has devoted many of his works to the land where he was born including a big series of decorative faience plates entitled “Altai. Following the Way of Rerikh”, twelve ceramic sketches that are a kind of his thoughts of the cultural experience of ancestors where he discovered for himself a huge spiritual continent inspiring him both as a thinker and an artist.

Vladimir Gorislavtsev is well-known in Russia and internationally recognized. His works are in collections of major museums in Russia, as well as in Italy, France, the United States, Switzerland, Hungary.
