Solo Show of Paintings by the People’s Artist of the USSR Ilya Glazunov in the Moscow Manezh

Organized to mark the 80-th anniversary of the People’s Artist of the USSR, the Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Ilya Glazunov, the show in the “Manezh” Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow features over fifty canvases created by the artist in recent years.

The focus of the exposition is Ilya Glazunov’s huge painting “Dispossession of the Kulaks”. Of major interest are his latest canvases “The Old Russian Birds of Paradise” painted in oil with elements of inlaid work and application, “The Decline of Europe” depicting doleful Pierrot and fiery-red Firebird, as well as “Spring is Coming Again”.

On show are also photographs of Ilya Glazunov with world celebrities whose portraits he painted. “My favorite painter Tiziano passed away at the age of 99 and when he was 95 he created one of his best canvases “Saint Sebastian” that is now in the Hermitage collection -– said Ilya Glazunov at the opening of the exhibition. “I am inspired by his example”.
