Unknown Salakhov: Show of Works by the Celebrated Painter Tair Salakhov in London

On show at Sotheby’s in London were over thirty canvases by the People’s Artist of the USSR, the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Tair Salakhov. The focus of the exhibition supported by BUTA Festival of Azerbaijani Art and the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Great Britain was a monumental six-meter triptych “Country of Fires” (2007) – a pictorial hymn to the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan.

The opening ceremony was attended by Lord Poltimore, Deputy Chairman of Sotheby’s Europe, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Great Britain Fakhraddin Gurbanov, diplomats, representatives of Azerbaijani, Turkish and Russian communities in London. The attendees highly appreciated the event, noted the significance of such cultural actions for the promotion of mutual understanding among nations and were unanimous in the opinion that the artist’s recent works on display at Sotheby’s had disclosed absolutely new and unknown Tair Salakhov.

The exhibition continued the Festival of Azerbaijani Art in London held from November 25, 2009 till March 7, 2010.
