Exhibition in Honor of the 75th Anniversary of M. Grekov Studio of Military Artists

The large-scale show in Manezh in honor of the 75th  anniversary of M. Grekov Studio of Military Artists presents over 600 paintings, drawings, sculptures by contemporary artists of the Studio, including works by academicians of the Russian Academy of Arts M. Samsonov,  M. Pereyaslavets, V. Pereyaslavets, S. Prisekin, A. Taratynov.

 

The Studio was established in 1934 on the initiative of the renowned painter Mitrophan Grekov. During the War in 1941- 1945 many artists of the Studio worked as war correspondents at the front, created posters, painted battle scenes and portraits of the  War heroes. Among its leading masters were E.V.  Vuchetich, A.A.  Gorpenko, I.V.  Evstigneev, N.N.  Zhukov, P.A. Krivonogov, P.T. Maltsev, M.I. Samsonov.

 

Today, the Studio is a unique creative team of thirty masters of painting, graphic art and sculpture. Continuing the traditions of outstanding Russian artists such as Ilya Repin, Vasily Vereschagin – most famous battle painter, Vasily Surikov, Franz Roubaud,  the Studio’s artists have created thousands of works on historical and battle themes, over 70 panoramic paintings in many countries, art works for the leading Russian state institutions, wall paintings for the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, sculptural complexes in many cities of Russia.
