Three Generations: Exhibition in Honor of the 70th Anniversary of the Monumental Painting Workshop of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute

The Russian Academy of Arts and V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute present an exhibition devoted to three generations of alumni of the monumental painting workshop of V. Surikov Moscow Art Institute.

 

This jubilee exhibition provides a rare opportunity to learn about the most interesting trends and stages in the development of the workshop founded in 1939 by the celebrated artist Alexander Deineka who was succeeded by the noted Soviet artist Klavdia Tutevol. For over twenty years the workshop has been headed by Eugene Maximov, outstanding master of monumental art whose wall paintings can be seen in many Orthodox cathedrals throughout the world. Due to the contribution of its head and teachers the workshop has become a unique school for training artists- monumentalists that is known in many countries.  The teachers and alumni of the workshop have been involved in recreation of the biggest in Russia Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, in the decoration of many church and secular buildings, their experience is asked for worldwide.   

 

The show includes paintings by A. Deineka, K. Tutevol, works by their pupils such as V. Harlov,  E. Maximov and others, as well as works by today’s students. As most of the exhibits are in the holdings of  V. Surikov Art Institute, they have not been shown to the wide public before.
