Carpets-Fantasies by Nina Budennaya on Show in the Russian Academy of Arts

Nina Budennaya is well known for her colorful patchwork carpets-pictures that are entirely a result of her imagination. She is a daughter of the legendary Marshal Semen Budenny, a major  Soviet cavalry commander.

In the stylistics of her carpets are combined traditions of a primitive style and naïve art.  The artist’s carpets are full of ironic parody on various everyday situations: her son-in-law Peter is depicted  during hunting in the company of Turgenev and Nekrasov, among village singers and musicians one can recognize Mstislav Rostropovich with his cello, an oriental beauty is lying on a silk bedspread with a hookah in one hand and a book by K. Marinina in the other.
