Exhibition of Paintings by Alexei Begov in the Russian Academy of Arts

The Russian Academy of Arts presents a retrospective of paintings by Alexei Begov, Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.  In his creative work the artist has synthesized Russian, Oriental and European art traditions and his own pictorial concepts.

Alexei Begov was born in the Ukraine in 1951, studied in Kazakhstan, lived and worked in Kyrgyzstan. Since the 1980s the artist has been living in Moscow. Since his successful solo exhibition in the State Tretyakov Gallery in 1995, the artist’s   works have been appreciated not only in Russia but in the United States, France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain. From 1998 till 2004 Alexei Begov lived and worked in Paris. 

In 2004 Alexei Begov completed his work of several years on the wall paintings of St. Nicholas Chapel in Chateau de Gillevoisin near Paris. The frescos of the 17th century church express the artist’s vision of the New Testament from the Nativity to the Crucifixion of Christ. 

It has not been Begov’s first experience in monumental painting. In the 1990s within the framework of the Wall of Peace international art action, he created a huge canvas “The End of the 20th Century”, as well as a big cycle entitled At the Turn of the Century.

In 2006 Alexei Begov became the first Russian holder of the gold medal “Art-Science-Literature” of the French Academic Society.
