Exhibition of Works by Illarion Golitsyn (1928-2007) in Paris

The display in the Russian World Gallery in Paris introduces a many-sided  talent of Illarion Golitsyn, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. A descendent of the famous Golitsyn princely family, whose members played a significant role in the Russian history, Illarion Golitsyn has been a remarkable successor of his ancestors.

Illarion Golitsyn graduated from the Moscow (former Stroganoff) Art and Industrial School. In his works the artist developed the best traditions of home graphic art, painting and sculpture.  He was much influenced by his father – graphic artist Vladimir M. Golitsyn, Paul Korin, was an ardent  admirer of Vladimir Favorski.

The range of his creative work is extremely diverse. Together with other graphic artists of the 1960s,  he opened a new chapter in the history of Russian art which name is “linocut of the 1960s”, then an art phenomenon. Illarion Golitsyn was equally successful in easel engraving, painting  and sculpture.

The artist’s works are in the collections of major Russian public museums, including the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum of Fine arts, the Russian Museum as well as in private collections in Russia and other countries. Illarion Golitsyn is a winner of many Russian and international awards.
