Major Retrospective of Paintings and Drawings by Tair Salakhov: In Honor of the Artist’s 80th Anniversary

The jubilee retrospective of Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts Tair Salakhov, who has recently marked his 80th anniversary, features over 100 paintings and drawings from public and private collections in Russia and Azerbaijan.

Tair Salakhov is a prominent figure in home art. He is one of the most talented artists of the post-war generation, a founder of the “grim style”, an academician, a living classic whose contribution to the promotion of fine arts and fostering of young artists has been world-recognized and appreciated by numerous high honors and awards.

Along with the master’s well-known works such as Portrait of Composer Dmitry Shostakovich (1974-76), Portrait of Composer Kara Karaev (1960) and many other masterpieces, the exposition highlights his monumental canvas entitled It is to You, the Mankind. Created in 1961, not long before the first astronaut’s space flight, it was a subject for hot discussions at that time. The display is also an unparalleled opportunity to see the artist’s works that have never been displayed in public before.
