Severe Style: Exhibition in the Moscow State Museum “Burganov House”

From November 12 through December 1, 2008 the Burganov House hosts an exhibition of works by artists of “severe style”: Pavel Nikonov; Peter Ossovski; Alexander Burganov; Victor Popkov; Igor Obrosov; Dmitri and Nina Zhilinsky.

The “thaw” of the 1960s was a powerful creative urge for artists who based on the traditions of the Russian art school. The period of “severe style” lasted almost a decade but became an important part in Russian art. The portrayal of many-sided Russian reality and human nature by the severe language of painting and sculpture has turned into a kind of encyclopedia of life in post-war Russia.

The exhibition features paintings, sculpture and graphic works from museum and private collections.
