The Family Chronicle: Paintings by Vladimir Pimenov

From November 13 through  November 23, 2008 on show in Tsereteli Art Gallery will be paintings by People’s Artist of Russia Vladimir Pimenov: the Family Chronicle. The artist from the old town of Zaraisk not far from Moscow presents a cycle of his paintings devoted to four generations of his family.

As a primary source Vladimir Pimenov uses photographs from his family album which he constructively transforms. The artist’s concern for restoration of the disturbed link of times, revival of his relatives’ portraits, feeling himself a part of the family clan is simple, noble and understandable to every person.  This theme has never better corresponded to the main idea of 2008 - Year of the Family in Russia.

The paintings, taken one with another, create a feeling of a documentary film. They are united by the similarity of styles, compositional schemes,  the palette  and pictorial means. The canvases are complemented by the artist’s texts and comments. Vladimir Pimenov has managed to recreate the atmosphere of his ancestors’ time  that can be grasped so distinctly by today’s viewers.

Pimenov’s cycle “The Family Chronicle”, unique in its inner contents and forms of expression, has been exhibited in many cities of the Russian Federation and won a big success.

The works by Vladimir Pimenov can be found in collections of major museums in Russia and other countries including the State Tretyakov Gallery, A. Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Belarus State Museum of Fine Arts, Indian National Gallery in Delhi, as well as in private collection of the Graphic Art Gallery in Aahen (Germany), Ludwig Collection(Germany), Kostaki Collection (Greece) and others.
