Show of Sculptures by Elena Preobrazhenskaya (1943-2008)

The Russian Academy of Arts presents a display of sculptures by Moscow sculptor Elena Preobrazhenskaya (1943-2008).  Overcoming the historical distance and remaining true to the classical tradition, the sculptor has strived to comprehend images of her noted contemporaries and at the same time to portray the spiritual greatness and complexity of their genius. The exposition includes her sculptural portraits of physicist Peter Kapitsa, maestro Rozhdestvenski, art critic Ksenia Kravchenko and others.

Of big interest are the sculptor’s genre compositions resulted from her extensive traveling throughout the country, as well as nudes.  Elena Preobrazhenskaya has actively worked in both easel miniature and monumental plastic art. Among her last works was a monument to Motherland in Aksinyino village in the Moscow region.  Her bronze sculpture of St. Sergius of Radonezh for the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow has been appreciated by a medal of the Russian Academy of Arts.

Sculptural works by Elena Preobrazhenskaya are in collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and in private collections in Russia and other countries.
