Exhibition of Works by Zurab Tsereteli in Kazan

On February 4, 2008 President of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of Russia came to Kazan to close his solo exhibition in the National Art Gallery. Organized by the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, the State Museum of Fine Arts of  Tatarstan and the Russian Academy of Arts to mark the 250th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts, it was an unparalleled opportunity to experience some of the artist’s finest works.

The exhibition has featured his paintings, sculpture, enamels of various periods. Visitors could see the master’s multi-sided talent, the varying ways Zurab Tsereteli uses color to produce his powerful compositions on canvas, the plastic purity and  monolithic quality of his sculptural works testifying to his rare gift as a monumentalist. The exposition also included photographs of the sculptor’s monuments located in many cities of the world. The exhibition  has become one of the major events in the cultural life of  Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan.

The Russian Academy of Arts through its Volga Region Department has  longtime close ties with Kazan. Since 1977 in Kazan has been working a workshop of painting, where artists perfect their skills under Harris Yakupov, Full Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the USSR. It is planned to set up in Kazan an affiliate of V. Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute.
